The Vision
The vision of Crossing Borders is to create a lasting, on-going space for the stories and voices of Sikhs in Britain, that would otherwise go unknown. We’re striving for them to be heard, honoured and preserved so that they become part of Britain’s shared historical record and inspire future generations.
We are passionate about bringing to light the stories that too often remain unheard. We believe that history belongs not only to the prominent and powerful, or to those whose names appear in history books, but equally to the ordinary Sikh men, women and children whose courage, sacrifice, resilience and everyday experiences have helped shape modern Britain.
Dr Dalvir Kaur Gill – Project Co-ordinator
Dr Dalvir Kaur Gill is an academic, educator and community researcher with a longstanding commitment to education, social justice, inclusion and amplifying unheard voices. With more than 30 years of national and international experience across eight public-sector institutions, including six universities, she is currently based at University College London (UCL)
Preeya Kaur – Project Co-ordinator
Preeya Kaur, whilst working in the private sector as a Finance Business Partner, has always had a passion for researching and preserving Sikh and Punjabi history. Whilst studying PPE at University of Birmingham, Preeya conducted research on the effects of British Sikhs from ongoings in Punjab.
